چکیده

In this paper, the rapid mobility of MIP/WLAN is emulated on a test-bed. The performance of MIP/WLAN at different moving speeds is evaluated. The result shows that current MIP protocol is not suitable for rapid moving environments. This paper depicts the relationship between the performance and the moving speed and breaks down the handoff latency of MIP/WLAN. A Speed Adaptive MIP extension is proposed and implemented on Hierarchical MIP. The emulation result shows that the Speed Adaptive MIP greatly improves the performance of MIP/WLAN in rapid moving environments.

A study of mobility in WLAN

This paper studies mobility in wireless LAN (WLAN, IEEE802.11). Mobility is an instinct nature of WLAN as being wireless. But this mobility is limited by radio propagation and the IEEE802.11 specifications. For seamless mobility in a larger area, e.g., between two extended service sets (ESSs), some sorts of mobility management mechanisms are needed. Mobile IP has been widely considered as a sol...

Improvements on “IP – IAPP”: A fast IP handoff protocol for IEEE 802.11 wireless and mobile clients in 802.11 WLANs

One of the most critical issues in introducing Wireless LAN (WLAN) real-time and delay sensitive applications, such as Voice over IP (VoIP), is guaranteeing IP service continuation during inter-subnet Basic Service Set (BSS) transitions. Even though WLANs offer very high channel bandwidth, they exhibit long network-layer handoff latency. This is a restraining factor for mobile clients using int...

A Mobile IPv6 based Seamless Handoff Strategy for Integrated UMTS-WLAN Networks

It is a very important and to be worthy of research issue which elucidates that how to provide mobile users for roaming among different access technology networks through seamless handoff mechanism. IPv6 will play an important role in the future wireless access networks, each of equipment has its unique IP address. For mobile equipment, IPv6 have mobility support (Mobile IPv6). Therefore, in or...

Efficient Handover Scheme of Proxy Mobile IPv6 in Wireless Local Area Networks

The IEEE 802.11 based WLAN is widely used because of its low cost and high data rate not only in a small office but also in a public hot spot. To support IP mobility of a mobile node in WLAN the mobile node should have a complicated Mobile IP function in its protocol stack if conventional host-based management protocol such as MIPv6 is used. In this paper we propose an efficient hand over schem...
